Jeff Shuford Announces Retirement from National Invest In Veterans Week®, Marking the End of a Visionary Era

Jeff Shuford, the trailblazing co-founder of National Invest In Veterans Week® (NIVW), has officially retired from the initiative, closing an extraordinary chapter in veteran advocacy and entrepreneurship. As a leader and innovator, Shuford revolutionized how veteran-owned businesses were celebrated and supported, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of veteran empowerment.

Known for his transformative leadership and forward-thinking strategies, Shuford turned NIVW from an idea into a global movement. His efforts created a platform that has empowered countless veteran-owned businesses and amplified the voices of veteran entrepreneurs around the world. Today, as he steps into full retirement, Shuford leaves behind a thriving organization that is well-positioned for a prosperous future under new leadership.

A Legacy of Vision and Action

Jeff Shuford’s tenure at NIVW will be remembered as a period of innovation, impact, and unprecedented growth. His achievements include:

 • Congressional Recognition: NIVW earned a spot in the Congressional Record, an honor reserved for initiatives that significantly impact the nation. This recognition underscores the importance of the platform Shuford built for veteran entrepreneurs.

 • Global Expansion: Shuford spearheaded the launch of the largest collection of veteran state domains, connecting veteran entrepreneurs and resources across 19 U.S. and 21 international markets.

 • Award-Winning Leadership: In 2024, Shuford was honored with the Lifetime Digital Grassroots Achievement Award, celebrating his groundbreaking work in veteran advocacy and digital innovation.

 • Self-Funded Success: Shuford built NIVW without external financial support, a rare feat for initiatives of its size. His ability to bootstrap the organization showcases his resourcefulness and commitment.

Through these accomplishments, Shuford positioned NIVW as more than a national observance—it became an ecosystem where veteran entrepreneurs could thrive.

“Jeff Shuford’s work changed the lives of veterans across the globe,” said LTC Rickey L. Pope, President and co-founder of NIVW. “He has set the gold standard for advocacy and innovation, and we are honored to carry his vision forward.”

Retirement: A New Chapter for Jeff Shuford

Unlike many retirements that bring new pursuits or ventures, Shuford’s retirement is a complete departure from daily operations. He has chosen to focus on absolutely nothing, relinquishing all operational responsibilities while embracing a well-deserved break from the intensity of his previous role.

“I’m retiring fully and completely,” Shuford said. “This is the end of my chapter at National Invest In Veterans Week®. I’m grateful for what we’ve accomplished, but now it’s time for others to lead.”

Shuford will remain involved in a ceremonial capacity as Honorary Ambassador of Veterans Affairs, a title that acknowledges his enduring contributions to veteran advocacy. This role will allow him to stay connected to the mission while stepping away from the day-to-day and strategic decisions of NIVW.

New Leadership at NIVW

The transition of leadership at NIVW marks an exciting new phase for the organization. Angel Shuford, Jeff’s wife, has been appointed Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Angel brings an impressive resume to her new role:

 • Military Service: As a decorated Army Reserve Air Traffic Controller, Angel has proven her leadership and dedication to service.

 • Real Estate Expertise: Angel is a Military Relocation Professional (MRP) and a multi-million-dollar realtor, demonstrating her entrepreneurial acumen and ability to succeed in competitive industries.

 • Strategic Vision: Tasked with building on Jeff’s roadmap, Angel’s role will focus on expanding NIVW’s financial sustainability and ensuring the organization becomes profitable.

“Angel Shuford is a leader of unmatched talent and passion,” said LTC Pope. “Her background, coupled with her dedication to veterans, makes her the ideal person to lead NIVW into its next chapter.”

Together with LTC Rickey L. Pope, who continues to serve as President, Angel will oversee the day-to-day operations of NIVW. The leadership duo will focus on refining operations, increasing profitability, and ensuring the mission continues to empower veterans worldwide.

Jeff Shuford’s Enduring Legacy

Though retired, Jeff Shuford’s influence on NIVW will endure. His forward-thinking strategies and dedication have established a roadmap for future success. He revolutionized how veterans are supported, creating a model that other advocacy organizations are likely to follow.

Among his most notable contributions:

 • Creating Lasting Platforms: From the vast portfolio of veteran state domains to the robust digital presence of NIVW, Shuford’s infrastructure ensures that the organization will thrive for decades to come.

 • Setting New Standards for Advocacy: Shuford redefined what it means to support veterans, blending grassroots advocacy with cutting-edge digital strategies.

“Jeff’s retirement doesn’t mean he’s gone—his vision is embedded in everything we do,” said LTC Pope. “We will continue to honor his work by growing and evolving NIVW, ensuring it remains a beacon of hope and empowerment for veterans.”

What’s Next for Jeff Shuford?

In retirement, Shuford plans to focus on relaxation and reflection. With no new ventures on the horizon, he is embracing the rare opportunity to truly step back.

“I’ve spent years building, advocating, and innovating,” Shuford said. “Now, I’m ready to do absolutely nothing. It’s time for rest, and I know the incredible team at NIVW will carry this mission forward.”

Looking Ahead: A Bright Future for NIVW

As NIVW moves into its next chapter, the organization is poised for continued success. Under the leadership of LTC Pope and Angel Shuford, the focus will shift toward ensuring financial sustainability while expanding the reach and impact of the organization.
